Medicare Open Enrollment 2027: What Trinity & Hudson Patients Should Know

Medicare Open Enrollment 2027 dates for Trinity and Hudson Florida patients
In short

Medicare Open Enrollment, formally the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP), runs from October 15 through December 7, 2026. Changes made during this period generally take effect January 1, 2027. It is a good time to review your plan's drug coverage, costs, and provider network, and to confirm that your primary care doctor is still in network before you choose coverage for next year.

Medicare Open Enrollment begins October 15 and runs through December 7. This period, formally known as the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP), gives eligible Medicare beneficiaries an opportunity to review and change certain Medicare coverage for the upcoming year. For patients in Trinity, Hudson, and across Pasco County, a careful review can help keep your care connected in 2027: the doctors you see, the medications you take, the pharmacy you use, and what you may pay out of pocket.

  • October 15, 2026: Annual Enrollment begins
  • December 7, 2026: Annual Enrollment ends
  • January 1, 2027: Most selected plan changes take effect

Florida Medicare Open Enrollment follows these same national dates. This guide explains what the Medicare Open Enrollment Period is for, what to check before you choose a plan, and how to confirm that your primary care doctor is still in network. It is educational information from a medical practice, not a recommendation of any insurer or plan.

What can you change during the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period?

According to Medicare.gov, during the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP), people with Medicare may be able to:

  • Join, switch, or drop a Medicare Advantage Plan, with or without drug coverage
  • Move from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage Plan, or from a Medicare Advantage Plan back to Original Medicare
  • Join, switch, or drop a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan

What you can do depends on your eligibility and plan type. If your current coverage still fits your needs for 2027, you do not have to make a change. Medicare Open Enrollment is also not the only enrollment period Medicare offers. For example, Medicare.gov describes a separate Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period from January 1 to March 31 for people already in a Medicare Advantage Plan, and special enrollment periods can apply after certain life events.

Review your prescription drug coverage

Drug coverage is one of the areas most likely to change from one year to the next. Before you compare plans, it helps to know that:

  • A plan's list of covered drugs, called a formulary, may change
  • The tier a medication is placed on may change
  • Preferred pharmacies may change
  • Copays, coinsurance, and other cost sharing may change

Start by making a current list of every medication you take, including the dose and how often you take it. Your provider can help you understand your medications, and your plan or a licensed insurance professional can help explain how a plan covers them. Coverage depends on your plan.

Make sure your primary care doctor is still in network

Many people search for "primary care doctors that accept Medicare near me" only after their coverage has already changed. It is easier to check first. If you have a Medicare Advantage Plan, the network of doctors and facilities can vary from plan to plan and can change from year to year. Provider directories can also change.

If you are looking for a primary care doctor accepting Medicare, or an internal medicine doctor that takes Medicare, verify in two places before you enroll:

  1. Ask the medical practice. Call the office with the exact name of the plan you are considering.
  2. Ask the insurance carrier. Confirm that the doctor, the office location, and your specialists are in the plan's network for 2027.

Network participation can vary by insurer and by individual plan. For a deeper look at this topic, read our guide on how to choose a primary care doctor with Medicare.
