How the wellness visit differs from a physical
Many people expect a full physical when they book a wellness visit. The two visits have different purposes:
- Annual Wellness Visit: a planning and review visit. Your provider talks with you about your health history, risks, medications, and goals, and creates a prevention plan. It is not a head to toe physical exam.
- Physical exam: a hands on exam of your body, often with a closer look at specific symptoms or concerns. A physical is billed differently, so cost sharing may apply.
If you bring up a new problem, or if other tests or services are done during the wellness visit, those may be billed separately and cost sharing may apply. Knowing this ahead of time helps you plan. If you want a physical or need to address a specific concern, tell the scheduling team so the right visit can be booked.

During the visit, you may fill out a short health questionnaire, then meet with your provider to go over the answers. Together you will review which screenings are due and which vaccines to consider. If your provider recommends lab work, it may be done with an in office blood draw. Any follow up care, such as a separate visit for a new concern, is scheduled before you leave.
