Understanding Your Annual Physical: What to Expect

By Amanda Durrett, FNP-BC · May 19, 2026

It's more than a blood pressure cuff

An annual physical is the single most efficient appointment on your calendar — one visit covers screening, prevention, and a check-in on anything that's changed since last year.

Before you arrive

Bring a list of current medications and supplements, any new symptoms you've noticed, and questions you want answered. If you're due for labs, we may ask you to arrive fasting — our team will let you know in advance.

What we review

Blood pressure, heart rate, weight, and basic vitals come first. From there we review your health history, update your medication list, and talk through anything on your mind — no topic is too small.

Screenings based on your age and risk

Depending on your age, sex, and family history, your visit may include cholesterol and blood sugar testing, cancer screening referrals, or an EKG. We tailor the visit rather than running a one-size-fits-all checklist.

Leaving with a plan

You'll leave with a written summary of what was discussed, any labs ordered, and a clear next step — whether that's a follow-up visit, a referral, or simply confirmation that everything looks good.
