Our Hudson and Trinity offices perform EKGs in office for adult patients, and your provider reviews the results with you during the same visit. The test usually takes only a few minutes, is painless, and helps your provider understand your heart rhythm and how your heart is working.
What EKG testing includes
Each heartbeat starts with an electrical signal. An EKG captures that signal through small sticky patches (electrodes) placed on the skin. The tracing shows your heart rate, rhythm, and patterns that can point to certain heart conditions.
An EKG can help your provider:
- Check for an irregular heartbeat, such as atrial fibrillation
- Evaluate symptoms like palpitations, chest discomfort, dizziness, or fainting
- Look for signs of strain on the heart, including from long term high blood pressure
- Screen before a surgery or procedure when clearance is required
- Monitor a known heart condition or the effects of certain medications
Because the test is done in the office, results feed directly into your care plan. If your EKG shows something that needs a closer look, your provider explains the next steps, which may include a follow up plan, more testing, or a referral to cardiology.

What to expect at your visit
Before the test: No special preparation is usually needed. Wear a top that is easy to remove or open at the front. Avoid heavy lotions or oils on your chest on the day of the test, since they can keep the electrodes from sticking well. Bring a list of your medications.
During the test: You lie still on the exam table while a team member places electrodes on your chest, arms, and legs. The machine records your heart's electrical activity for a short time. You will not feel any electricity. Breathing normally and staying relaxed helps produce a clear tracing.
After the test: The electrodes are removed, and you can return to normal activities right away. Your provider reviews the results with you during the same visit and explains what they mean. A copy of your results is available in the patient portal.

Insurance and coverage
EKG testing is commonly covered by Medicare and many commercial plans when it is medically needed. Coverage depends on your plan and the reason for the test. Please call the office to verify your coverage before your visit.
